Hello and welcome! I’m Ella, the founder and director at Insight Wellbeing. I am a counsellor, speaker and educator with a career spanning over 25 years in mental health, counselling, personal and professional development training, and education.
My therapeutic approach is Person-centred and Eclectic, meaning that I honour you and your life story by using techniques and teaching you skills from various theoretical orientations that are suitable for your well-being, healing and goals. I have a Master of Arts in Transcultural Counselling, where I graduated with a Distinction and was awarded The Dean’s Award for Excellence in Studies. I also have a Bachelor of Education (Honours), a Professional Certificate in Adolescent Counselling, a Certificate in Mental Health Assessment and Suicide Prevention in Aboriginal Communities, and a Certificate in Laughter Wellbeing among others. I am passionately committed to ongoing professional development through continuous research, training and supervision.
The approach at Insight Wellbeing is based on findings in the field of neuroplasticity. Both Kandell (1998) and Doidge (2007) assert that counselling (talking therapy) promotes detectable changes in the brain. Brain scans of clients taken before and counselling show that the brain changes itself and the more meaningful counselling is, the greater the positive change!
My experience in counselling and education is diverse. My clients have come to counselling with a variety of issues such as anxiety, depression, stress, lack of direction or meaning in life, feeling stuck or unable to move past a traumatic experience, spiritual dilemmas, drug-related issues, anger management, relationship and/or family issues, cultural issues, identity development, childhood issues and more. I have also taught Life Skills and Personal Development to children, adolescents and adults who requested guidance in areas such as self-esteem and lack of confidence, friendship, bullying, assertiveness and much more. I have worked with clients individually as well as in groups in various settings such as residential therapeutic settings, parent groups, youth groups and with the elderly. I deliver workshops, seminars, retreat sessions, key notes and professional development training encompassing practical psychology as well as workshops and sessions combining psychology with Christian spirituality to explore topics.
